Clitoxin®

Dr. Loftin is one of the first providers in San Antonio certified to offer the latest innovation in women’s sexual wellness, Clitoxin®

Female sexual dysfunction encompasses a range of issues, including desire difficulties, arousal difficulties, orgasmic disorders and overall dissatisfaction with sexual experiences. While various treatments exist they often fall short in directly targeting the physiological aspects of female sexual function.

That is why I am so excited about the Clitoxin® procedure which is designed to address these concerns at their very core.

The foundation of the Clitoxin® procedure is the use of botulinum neurotoxin type A which has been used for decades to modulate muscle activity and nerve function. It is most used in aesthetics to relax the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other facial wrinkles. It is also used extensively to treat migraines and other medical conditions. More recently within the last 12-18 months, it has shown promise improving sexual function in men.

Dr. Charles Runels (the creator of the O-Shot®, P-Shot®, Vampire Facial®, and other Vampire procedures) and Dr. Alexandra Runnels conducted research that reveal that the Clitoxin® procedure is very effective in improving desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and overall sexual function in women. The data revealed a significant increase in the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) after the Clitoxin® procedure—much greater than many of the the current FDA-approved treatments for Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD).

What is the Clitoxin® procedure?

The Clitoxin® procedure is a very specific method of injecting botulinum toxin (BoNT) to help women with desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm and overall sexual satisfaction. The Clitoxin® procedure is groundbreaking because of its novel application of the science to use the effects of botulinum toxin for sexual enhancement in women. This procedure can be done with or without platelet-rich plasma (PRP), however the benefits of combing BoNT with PRP yields results that are 50% greater than those with BoNT alone due to the regenerative properties of PRP.

I thought that botulinum toxin was all about relaxing muscles… How does it work to enhance sexual function?

Botulinum toxin (BoNT) indeed does weaken some muscles, such as the facial muscles when injected there as a cosmetic procedure. When it’s injected into areas of the face and neck to treat migraine headaches, it travels along nerves to certain regions in the brain where it relaxes the blood vessels that are often involved in migraines. Similarly, when injected into the body of the clitoris, the BoNT acts locally in the tissue and distally in the brain to enhance the parasympathetic portion of the autonomic nervous system, thereby relaxing blood vessels. This allows for genital engorgement and lubrication. Interestingly, BoNT injected into the body of the clitoris also seems to activate certain areas within the hypothalamus portion of the brain where desire and arousal initiate.

What are the benefits of the Clitoxin® procedure?

When performed by a certified practitioner trained in O-Shot® and Clitoxin® administration, women can enjoy the following benefits:

O-Shot® procedure

  • Quick and pain-free vaginal rejuvenation
  • No surgery or downtime
  • Promotion of collagen production with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
  • Improved pelvic and sexual health
  • Stronger orgasms
  • Tighter vaginal walls
  • Increased lubrication in the vagina
  • Enhanced sensitivity of the vagina and clitoris
  • Relief from stress urinary incontinence and other conditions
  • Suitable for adult women 18+

Clitoxin® procedure

  • All benefits of the O-Shot® procedure are enhanced
  • Increased sexual arousal
  • Most women in the study reported that they had a significantly decreased length of time from mental sexual arousal (getting turned on) to their body’s physiologic actual arousal response (lubrication, engorgement, enhanced sensation)

What happens during the Clitoxin® procedure?

The procedure is actually quite simple. It takes about 30 minutes, the bulk of time being preparation before the procedure. First, the doctor applies numbing medication. If choosing the option with platelet-rich plasm (PRP), there will be a blood draw from your arm. The PRP is extracted from the blood using an FDA-cleared PRP centrifuge machine to separate the richest growth factors and natural stem cells. The PRP is mixed with the BoNT. Using a tiny, super-fine needle, the combined solution is injected into the clitoris and PRP only is injected into the front wall of the vagina. Most women describe the procedure to be essentially pain-free, but rarely some may feel a slight tingle as the PRP mixture solution essentially spreads throughout the tissues.

Is the Clitoxin® procedure safe? What is the recovery time? Any side effects?

Because the Clitoxin® procedure is minimally invasive, it is a safer alternative to plastic surgery with no downtime following treatment. Women can return to normal activity, including sex, immediately after the Clitoxin® procedure. Some women might experience minimal spotting immediately following the procedure at the injection site.

How long do the results of the Clitoxin® procedure last? How often do I get injections? Is it permanent?

No, the Clitoxin® procedure is not permanent. Though results of the O-Shot® alone can last up to 2 years, the additional results of the Clitoxin® Procedure have been shown to last approximately 6 months so far. Dr Loftin typically recommends annual sessions of the O-Shot® for ongoing rejuvenation, and as needed Clitoxin® procedures in order to maintain desired results. However, each person’s anatomy and thus, results may vary.

Am I an ideal candidate?

Women going through menopause, as well as women who experience painful sex, lubrication problems, low arousal, difficulty achieving orgasm or who have mild stress urinary incontinence are ideal candidates for this procedure.

It is also an excellent treatment for women who simply wish to enhance their sex lives and sexual response. However, if the only symptom you wish to treat is pain with intercourse, your response to the O-Shot®/Clitoxin® procedures may not be as great. Please schedule a consultation with Dr Loftin so that she may address all your concerns and develop a treatment plan just for you!

The Clitoxin® procedure sounds great! Will it be enough to fix all my sexual problems?

There are many factors that contribute to sexual dysfunction in men and women, such as plaque buildup in penile or clitoral blood vessels, unbalanced or low hormones, depression/anxiety, diseases affecting the genitals such as Peyronie’s Disease and lichen sclerosus, tobacco use and more.  The Clitoxin® procedure is very effective as a standalone procedure, but can be administered in conjunction with other therapies like ThermiVa, Emsella chair treatments; bio-identical hormones (BHRT), medications, supplements, peptides, tobacco cessation and healthy weight management to optimize results.

How much does the Clitoxin® procedure cost?

The price depends on the condition of the skin of your vulva and vagina to begin with, as well as your treatment goals:  the O-Shot® costs $1200 for a basic O-Shot®. The Clitoxin® procedure includes the O-Shot® procedure, 50 units of botulinum toxin and costs $1200 more than the O-Shot® procedure.  From April 2024 through July 2024 there will be special introductory prices for the standalone Clitoxin®.
